This is a prestigious award aimed at academics of the highest quality who are already on a research path to being a world-leading researcher. The Fellow will work within The International Institute for Sign Languages and Deaf Studies (iSLanDS) located within the School of Literature, Languages and International Studies and will be expected to conduct and publish internationally leading research. The Fellow will be expected to develop a personalised research profile that includes an international comparative context and builds on previous work at iSLanDS in: English literacy to deaf learners; Digital resources and their application in Applied Sign Linguistics, and/or Comparative research on the impact of capacity building in Applied Sign Linguistics in deaf communities in different countries. The Fellowship is open to researchers currently based in a neighbouring academic area e.g. deaf education or theoretical sign linguistics, provided that there is a clear prospect for developing work in Applied Sign Linguistics. As the Fellowship develops, Fellows will be increasingly expected to undertake research student supervision and deliver research informed teaching.The Guild Research Fellow will be expected to apply for external grants and to submit high quality research outputs to the Research Excellence Framework 2014, the majority of these to be of 3*(international quality) level and above.
